Do you know who was Hazrat Hamza? The story of Ameer Hamza Accepting Islam
Ameer Hazrat Hamza (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) was the paternal uncle of Hazrat Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him). His Kunyas (کنیت) was Abu Ammara. He was martyred in the Battle of Uhud and because of his bravery and sacrifice for the Islam, he attained the title of Syed-ush-Shuhada (سَيِّدُ الشُّهَدَاء) “Chief of the Martyrs”.
In a depressing atmosphere infested with dark clouds of injustice and tyranny, there shone on the horizon a light of hope for the oppressed, i.e. the conversion of Hamzah bin ‘Abdul-Muttalib (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) in Dhul Hijjah, the sixth year of Prophethood.
It is described that once the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (ﷺ) was sitting on the rock of Mountain Safa. Abu Jahal passed by him. He committed to insult and accuse the religion of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ). Hazrat Muhammad (ﷺ) remained silent and said nothing, in response. Then Abu Jahal took a stone and thrown on the Prophet’s head which cracked and began to bleed. After hurting the Holy Prophet (ﷺ), he went to join the Quraishites in their assembly place.
Soon, after that incident, Hazrat Hamzah returned from a hunting expedition bow hanging by his shoulder, passed in the same way. A slave-girl belonging to ‘Abdullah bin Jada’an was residing on that mountain. She had seen the impertinence of Abu Jahl and told Hazrat Hamza the whole story of the attack on the Prophet (Peace be upon him).
On hearing that, Hazrat Hamzah (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ was deeply offended and moved towards Al-Ka’bah. He found Abu Jahal sitting with a company of Quraishites in the courtyard of the Holy Sanctuary. Hazrat Hamzah (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ ) rushed upon him and struck his bow upon his head violently and said: “Ah! You have been mistreating Muhammad (Peace be upon him); I too follow his religion and confess what he preaches.” The men of Bani Makhzum came to Abu Jahal and men of Bani Hashim wanted to help Hazrat Hamza (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ). Violence was created but Abu Jahal sent his tribesmen away saying: “Let Abu ‘Ummarah alone, by Allâh I did insult his nephew shamelessly.”
In fact, Hazrat Hamzah’s (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) conversion to Islam initially was to protect his relatives from being humiliated. Later on, Allâh purified his personality and he managed to grasp the most trustworthy hand-hold (Faith in Allâh). He proved to be a source of great strength to the Islamic Faith and its followers.
