Martyrdom of Hazrat Hanzala – ghaseel ul malaika is  a story of Hazrat Hanzala (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) Ibn-e- Abi Amir who belonged to the Banu Aus, a tribe of the Ansar. He embraced Islam and martyred in the battle of Uhud.

At the battle of Uhud, it was the second battle between the Muslims and the nonbelievers. The polytheists felt their defeat and started running. In the meantime, Hazrat Hanzala saw Abu Sufyan, who had not yet been Muslim. He rushed towards Abu Sufyan and attacked him with his sword. Resultantly, the horse got injured and fell on the ground along with Abu Sufyan. He cried for help.  An infidel, Aswad bin Shaddad rushed to help him and attacked Hazrat Hanzala (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) that resultantly caused his martyrdom.

When his martyrdom mentioned before the Holy Prophet ﷺ, He said, “I see that the angels are giving him the bath in silver vessels with the fresh water of the rain between the heavens and the earth.”

Hazrat Abu Sayed al Sa’di described that when we went to him, the water drops were soaking from his head. The Messenger of Allah Muhammad (ﷺ) said to his companions to inquire about him from his family.

His widow’s name was Jamila who was the sister of Abdullah Bin Abi. The people went to his widow and asked about Hazrat Hanzala. She replied that at first night of their marriage, Jihad was announced by the Holy Prophet PBUH. As he heard the announcement of Jihad from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), he left for it immediately without taking a due bath (ablution). After his departure, she called in four family members and explained them that they had have sexual relationship at night before his departure to Jihad with the view to avoid occurrence of conspiracies and false stories in future.

She further added that that she had a dream at that night and saw that the sky opened, and her husband entered into heavens, then the door closed. So, I realized that he must be martyred in this battle (battle of Uhud). Later, Allah had blessed her with a son, whose name was Abdullah. As Hazrat Hanzala was purified by the angels, he got the title of bathed by angels (Ghaseel-al-Malaika غسيل الملائكة).
